Opportunities From: San Diego Coastkeeper

We are looking for two (2) volunteers to help support our table at this year's Environmental Film Festival at the Suraj Israni Center for Cinematic Arts, UC San Diego – Mosaic Hall 0113, located at the University of California- San Diego. On Saturday, Coastkeeper will be tabling during the Block Party portion of the festival alongside other environmental organizations and groups. Time slot of event for tabling is now confirmed: 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM → Organizations/Vendors set up for Block Party (SDCK Staff lead will arrive around 12:20-30 PM)
1:00 PM – 6:00 PM → Block Party open
6:00 PM → Block Party tear down

You can sign up to help for half of the duration or all hours, and can take breaks. Please specify your capacity.

As part of our Mission Bay Water Quality Monitoring program, we have two monthly sampling opportunities, a weekend date (Saturdays) and a weekday date (usually on a Monday or Wednesday). To learn more about the program and see data results since September 2023, visit sdcoastkeeper.org/mb-wqm

Volunteers will collect water samples and use different scientific instruments to gather data. Please bring a reusable water bottle, sun protection, and shoes that can get wet (or are easy to take off). You might also get wet, so bring a towel or water-resistant clothing. 

There will be three (3) teams of no more than five (5) people each, with a designated carpool driver for each team. Please note (or let me know) if you can be a carpool driver; I would appreciate it! Otherwise I'll choose two people who can potentially be carpool drivers for each team.

The first ten (10) volunteers to sign up qualify for a stipend. please let me know if you wish to decline and offer it to the next person.

I, Lesly, will be reaching out with team updates. 

Location: The meet-up is at De Anza Cove Park, in the grassy area near the Gazebo. Please be mindful if there are other people set up near the grass, and move further left of the Gazebo if necessary when arriving. There tend to be parties and other events near the Gazebo area, so we will meet further away from that structure.

This opportunity is for a weekday event where we sample at all 10 sites for fecal bacteria and for all parameters at Kendall Frost Marsh (one of the last remaining tidal wetland habitats in Mission Bay). Volunteers will be split into two teams, one with our Volunteer and Outreach Manager and the other with another staff member, usually our Community Science Director or Marine Programs Manager. One of the teams will have the opportunity to use a kayak to grab water samples at two sites. 

Volunteers will collect water samples and use different scientific instruments to gather data. Please bring a reusable water bottle, sun protection, and shoes that can get wet (or are easy to take off). You might get wet, so bring a towel or water-resistant clothing. 

Our Volunteer and Outreach Manager will be reaching out with more updates. The first two (2) volunteers to sign up qualify for a stipend (given that you attend). Let me know if you'd like to decline and offer it to the next person. Stipends are limited to one per person per month to make them accessible to other people as well. I appreciate the understanding.

Join our Chollas Creek Water Quality Sampling Day, where volunteers will join our team to gather water samples and collect data at four (4) sites within the Chollas Lake community.

Volunteers will collect water samples and use different scientific instruments to gather data. Please bring a reusable water bottle, sun protection, hiking shoes (or closed-toed), and long pants. You might also want to bring hiking/athletic and water-resistant clothing. 

One team will join our Interim Community Science Director, Marie Diaz, and one other staff member.
